Been Here. Done That.

Keeping Charlotte HOmes Dry Since 1988.

Doing it right for four decades. And we’re just getting started.

In 1988, Doug Doggett was working for the family business, Doggett Concrete. He used a company called AlphaOmega to waterproof poured-in-place concrete walls. When AlphaOmega closed its doors, Doug bought their truck and kept the work going.

That was the day Moisture Loc was born. Not as a big, established brand. As a local, get-it-done operation that builders and later homeowners could depend on. (Some things never change.)

In the early days, Doug did it all. Sales, installs, cleanup, and whatever else needed doing. As Charlotte grew with new construction, Moisture Loc grew with it. Things were going well until 1993, when things really started going well. While working on a rare (for back then) residential job, Doug met his future wife. Thirty-plus years later, it’s still the best project he’s ever worked on.

As more people began to discover the Carolinas, they also discovered the challenges of owning a home in the South. It’s hot, humid, and damp here, which is not good for crawl spaces, basements, and anything made of wood. Moisture and mold became bigger points of emphasis for homeowners, as they did for the United States government.

In 2008, a Department of Energy report helped spotlight what Doug and his small team were already seeing firsthand: enclosed crawl spaces were drier than vented ones and more energy-efficient too. Recognizing an unmet need in the market, Doug and Moisture Loc shifted their focus to protecting residential homes.

As Doug’s other businesses, Doggett Concrete and Concrete & Materials Placement, continued to grow, Moisture Loc needed a day-to-day leader who would preserve its name, standards, and family-first culture.

Several years earlier, Doug’s nephew Greg had joined Moisture Loc after working in another industry. Greg learned waterproofing the same way Doug did, by doing the work. He spent years selling, servicing, and getting under homes, gaining invaluable exposure to every facet of the Moisture Loc business, including the stress homeowners feel when something’s not right in their house. Doug knew that Greg was the right person to take the leadership reins.

Over the years, Greg has encountered ornery snakes, been cornered by a feral cat, and run over by a stampede of freaked-out gophers. He’s paid his dues. He hasn’t been bitten by a dog yet, but he’s not retiring tomorrow either.

At a time when a lot of waterproofing competitors, and home service companies in general, are being purchased by private equity firms and “corporatized,” Moisture Loc has stayed family-owned on purpose. Satisfied, reassured customers should always take precedence over hitting a monthly number.

Today, Greg leads the Moisture Loc team using the same simple approach Doug started with in 1988: provide consistently excellent work, give honest estimates and interactions, and foster a culture that only a family-owned and led company can provide.

People can feel that difference, from the first phone call until long after their crawl space is dry.

That’s why they’ve chosen Moisture Loc, for nearly 40 years and counting.
